Suzanne Wright is an artist, educator, and Assistant Professor and Area Head of Painting & Drawing at the University of Iowa School of Art, Art History and Design. She earned her BFA from The Cooper Union and her MFA from the University of California, San Diego, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Wright's paintings, drawings, and collages propose a contemporary feminist alchemy—forging alternative systems of symbolism and meaning that challenge inherited narratives and cultivate new modes of perception, equality, and empowerment. Drawing from mythology, feminist history, abstraction, and personal iconography, her work reimagines visual language as a site of transformation and possibility. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Stephen Friedman Gallery (London), Wilding Cran Gallery (Los Angeles), Commonwealth and Council (Los Angeles), Luis De Jesus Los Angeles, Stefan Stux Gallery (New York), Claire Oliver Gallery (New York), and, most recently, in the solo exhibition The Alchemy of Equals at Tappeto Volante Projects (New York). Wright was awarded the Kraus Visiting Professorship in Painting and Drawing at Carnegie Mellon University and has taught at numerous universities in New York and Los Angeles. She was also the 2019–2020 Grant Wood Fellow in Painting at the University of Iowa before joining the faculty.
