ABOUT ARTS&REC

ARTS&REC brings together, under one non-profit organization, programs that have operated at OSMOS Station in Delaware County for several years with the help of numerous local partners, fiscal sponsors, and volunteers. 2024 will be the fifth year we have presented our Youth Art Workshops and the eighth year of our Artist Residency program. Each has grown in scope, success, outreach, and attendance year after year, and are still organized by the same team of instructors, administrators, and creatives that have directed them in the past, with the added advantage of one supervising organization.

Our facility, OSMOS Station, offers artists an opportunity to work and live in Stamford during the duration of their residency. A former truck garage located right off the Catskill Scenic Trail and adjacent to the village’s former train depot, the building has been renovated to include a two story apartment for housing, which is connected to a 1000 square foot studio/exhibition space with soaring 17 foot ceilings. Artists are provided housing, studio space, a stipend, travel allowance, and art supplies during their month-long residency. The residency typically culminates with a final public exhibition and reception. During the residency, artists are also provided curatorial and production support. ARTS&REC offers artistic guidance; networking opportunities with local fabricators, artists, and art industry professionals; studio visits with collectors; and promotion and marketing of their work and in support of their final exhibition.

The artists in residence also support in leading the Youth Art Workshops. The other instructors at the Youth Art Workshop are typically former artists in residence, as well as other artists from the region, who lead sessions in their respective artistic mediums. Past workshops have included painting, sewing, collage, photography, sculpture, and printmaking. These workshops have a suggested donation, but are otherwise free and open to children in the area ages 9-15.

Our cross-country skiing workshops are inherently weather dependent, but when there’s enough snow, ARTS&REC hosts these workshops on the Catskill Scenic Trail at various points throughout the winter, offering free equipment to those who don’t have any and lessons from a PSIA certified ski instructor.
